SPEAKABILITY UNLIMITED TEACHES YOUNG ADULTS HOW TO SPEAK WELL AND COMMUNICATE BETTER
Bill Cosby, the great comedian and outstanding Entertainer, was criticized for the statements he made pertaining to how poorly many African-American youths speak and the fact that many of them do not pronounce their words clearly when they try to communicate with others. He emphasized the fact that their lack of being unable to converse well and the way they carried themselves, could most likely affect their ability to conduct themselves well during employment interviews, and consequently limit their opportunities to succeed financially within the workforce.
Calvin C. Williams, Sr., PH.D. Owner & Executive Director of Universal Speakers Bureau and Author of a book on "How To Become a Confident and Effective Speaker," is also an African American. As a successful Businessman that was born into poverty, Williams says that Bill Cosby is a wise man and he has a lot of respect for him. Although he agrees with Dr. Cosby's statement that many young African Americans need to learn how to speak more clearly and interface better with people other than their peers, he does not agree that this communication problem pertains only to African-American youths.
Dr. Williams believes that a majority of teenagers and young American born adults of all colors and nationalities throughout the USA, do speak much too fast, use unnecessary redundant phrases, i.e., "O.K.," "uh-ha," "uh-uh," "you know what I'm saying," use the word; "like," during each sentence, and quite often, they speak in a slang language. He like Bill Cosby, believe that if today's young adults are to be the leaders of tomorrow, they will need to acquire the necessary training and conditioning to prepare them for leadership roles they may be inspired to accept in the near future.
As a result of peer pressure, or wanting to be affiliated with a particular group of their peers, many young men and women of all races and nationalities in America and in the Military, also use profane language among their friends and peers, and often the constant use of these words of profanity and slang phrases become a habitual part of their daily conversations that rub-off on their peers and also their own children when they have them.
Williams who also teaches Hearing Conservation Courses through his Professional Safety Training Services Company, in accordance with OSHA Codes of Federal Regulations, believe that many young adults are losing a large percentage of their hearing ability due to listening to loud motorcycle and automobile engines, as well as extremely loud music for long periods of time. Loud music at concerts, loud Walk-Man radio music closely bombarding their eardrums, and high pitched sounds as well as loud vibrating bass sounds can diminish their hearing to a point where they may not completely hear instructions given to them by their parents, teachers, and employers.
A gradual hearing loss can lead to frustration, irritableness, anxiety, inability to listen well, and consequently prevent a person from learning well. The more difficult it becomes to hear sounds, the more their ability to hear the teacher explain what information they are to study for important Exams will decrease. As a result, their scholastic scores can drop considerably.
One of the major keys to speaking well, according to Dr. Williams, is to try to listen well and practice how to speak clearly. To prevent further loss of hearing, a person should use hearing protection whenever feasible to dampen extremely loud sounds, or move to an area that is a safe distance from high decibels of sound. They should also consult with their doctor to obtain an audio-metric hearing test. When a person can hear better they can usually think better and consequently, listen more attentively. As a result, they should be able to learn how to speak better. Williams teaches Effective Listening Techniques during his Speaker Development Seminars
Williams, who is also a Chief Instructor for Universal Speakers Bureau and Professional Safety Training Services, Inc. and former College Professor, realize the importance of knowing how to speak and relate well with present and future employers and clients. He believes that no matter how much education and experience a person may have, if he or she does not use common sense and is unable to speak clearly and without confidence, their chances for upward mobility and financial success could be limited. As a result, Dr. Williams chose to do something about it.
He decided to take his old company; SPEAKABILITY UNLIMITED, founded in 1986, (a subsidiary of Universal Speakers Bureau) out of moth balls, and dedicate the Speaker Development instructions provided by SPEAKABILITY UNLIMITED to teenagers, young adults, or to anyone in need of speaking improvement and self-development. Williams, also the Founder of Employment Assistance Training Services, Inc. (EATS, Inc.), a self-help non-profit program, is hoping to acquire his own radio or television show, or appear on a number of shows in order to reach out to thousands of people, especially young adults that have a desire to learn how to relate better verbally, and also improve their attitudes and way of life. For more information about EATS, Inc. and Universal Speakers Bureau (USB), log onto web sites: www.psts.com and www.universalspeakersbureau.com.
Bill Cosby may have started the ball to roll with his publicized statements. However, his remarks, although controversial, encouraged many young people to attend Personal Achievement and Self Improvement Courses. Williams intends to keep the ball rolling so that the necessary action to improve the speaking and low self-esteem situation that exists for many people of all ages, colors, nationalities, and from all walks of life, can help them to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps from the confidence training they will receive from him through SPEAKABILITY UNLIMITED and Universal Speakers Bureau. Dr. Calvin Williams is available for speaking engagements.
